A Quick Getaway to Candlewood Cabins

My girlfriend, Saba, is my favorite traveling partner. Since the pandemic, we had to shut down all of our plans, but we still get on the phone to discuss future dreamy destinations. One evening, we both expressed that it would be a fun idea to rent a place in the middle of nowhere, but close enough to Chicago. A place where the children could be outside and run around freely.

She mentioned Candlewood Cabins in Wisconsin. The minute I looked at their website, I knew it was just the right place! Saba has been trying to book a stay there for the past year. They rarely have openings (right now they're booked two years out), but I got lucky since they just finished building their 5th cabin called The Barn.

The Barn is incredibly spacious. It is meant to host 12 people, which gave Nadia and Enzo lots of room to play. The property is run by a family that has had the land for generations. The mother and daughter are the interior designers, and the father runs the architectural logistics. You can feel the love and see that they put a lot of thought into each cabin. The Barn initially belonged to their grandmother, who used to live there. Everything inside is impeccably designed. 

The Barn has a calm, infectious energy. We could hear birds chirping every morning, we read books by the fireplace and made smores by the fire pit outside. We were supposed to make hot dogs too, but I forgot to bring them.

If you choose to go, plan out your food and groceries ahead and do not worry about silverware, plates, or any kitchen equipment. They have everything perfectly organized and stored.

Nadia's favorite part of the cabin were the french baths. Our place came with two. She requested a bubble bath immediately!

I loved the fact that my children could just go outside, and I didn't have to worry about masks and sanitizers. It was the type of getting-away-from-it-all kind of place that made it hard to leave.
