French Dreams
Imagine wondering the cobblestone streets of Paris and stumbling upon a charming café. What do you smell? What do you hear? What do you see? Now imagine that French café in the heart of Chicago.
Maison Marcel is a quaint French bakery in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Painted a bright white with blue block lettering, the café stands apart from its neighboring buildings. The smell of freshly baked bread and roasted coffee welcomes you inside. The cozy, bohemian-inspired décor makes you feel right at home.
At the main counter, an assortment of sweets tempts you as you order. I could not resist trying one of the almond croissants I eyed walking in. If you are dining in, you can grab a seat next to the oversized, accordion windows that open letting the natural light and summer breeze in. At this table, I have a 360-degree view of the café; the fireplace in the corner, the juice and smoothie bar adjacent, and (of course) the lavish display of pastries at the main counter.
Finally, it is time to indulge in the croissant in front of me. Within the first bite, I realize my pastry dreams. It has the perfect ratio of buttery heft and feathery flake; unlike any other in the city.
If you live in Lincoln Park, you probably have noticed a beautiful mural hidden in the alley behind the famous Charlie Trotter restaurant. Framed in the center of intertwining colors of blue and pink, is a Parisian-styled coffee window. Here, you can find homemade artisanal French pastries, breads, coffee, and specialty drinks. Once you have your pastry-of-choice and latte in hand, an Instagram photo-op is a must!
Enjoy Maison Marcel for yourself!
